About Us
When I finished high school, I had big dreams of going to university. But life hit hard from the start. Everywhere I applied turned me down—until one institution finally accepted me at the very last minute. That should’ve been my fresh start, but the real struggle was just beginning. NSFAS rejected my funding application, so my parents took out loans so I could enroll. We barely had enough money to eat, let alone cover expensive textbooks.
By the end of my first semester, my parents’ funds were running on empty. They struggled to gather enough for the second semester, and I ended up failing my modules because I simply couldn’t study—no money to buy books or access the resources I needed. Watching my family endure this kind of financial pressure tore me up. I made the tough choice to drop out to ease the burden, even though it meant putting my dreams on hold.
Unemployed and sitting at home, I decided that was enough. I took matters into my own hands, teaching myself programming through online tutorials and persistent trial and error. Eventually, with a few close friends, I launched 2ndHandBooks—vowing that no student should ever have to go through the same hardships I did.
At 2ndHandBooks, we believe no one should have to choose between feeding their family and buying a textbook. By connecting students directly to second-hand resources, we’re aiming to slash costs, ease the financial stress on families, and build a supportive community. We want every student to have a fair shot at pursuing their education—no guilt, no crippling debt, and no more heartbreak over essential study materials.
So, welcome to 2ndHandBooks. This platform isn’t just a marketplace; it’s a promise to make education accessible for all. We’re here to help you find, sell, and swap textbooks easily, so you can focus on what matters most: your future.
